Last Friday evening our son Austin married the girl of his dreams! We couldn’t be happier for them and we are thrilled to have a new, and our first, daughter-in-law! Neither Austin nor Brianna had ever wanted to have a wedding in the traditional sense. So we were excited when they asked if they might have a small ceremony here at our farm for close family.
After several days of unsettled weather, ranging from triple digits the weekend before to thunder, lightning, wind and rain the night before, the skies cleared and a cool breeze blew. It couldn’t have been more perfect! Such a romantic setting overlooking the creek and the barn where they exchanged their vows.
What made this ceremony even more special was that it took place right above where Austin and his brothers grew up playing and building dams in the creek below. So many wonderful childhood memories took place along these banks! Walking along the creek today it feels almost like sacred ground to me as I relive the past, the present, and dream about the future playing in the creek with my own children’s children.
The ceremony was followed by a lovely and fun reception with family and friends. As exhausted as I was after weeks of hard work, planning, preparing, and cooking, I hated for this magical evening to end! Many thanks to my husband David, Bri’s parents, Annie and Rob, along with the Lyon family for making the magic happen! And, a special thanks to our extended families and close friends who came to support Austin and Brianna and their new life together.
